Speaking of snorers, Slava recalled a hilarious story. Back in Soviet times, he was traveling by train in an open sleeper car. Where he was going is irrelevant to the story, and I don't feel like making it up. He got incredibly lucky and fell asleep before one particular man — an ex-military guy — dozed off. After that, no one else in the entire carriage got any sleep. Slava heard his snoring for himself in the morning; he says it sounded like military fighter jets taking off (believe me, that is really, really loud, you can't hear yourself if you say something out loud). Later, he got to talking with this military guy, and the man mentioned that back in his day, he was the number three snorer in the USSR. Naturally, Slava asked where such precision came from. It turned out that during the 1980 Moscow Olympics, the KGB decided to prevent foreign athletes from getting a good night's rest before crucial competitions, so the best snorers in the USSR were planted in every other room at the hotel. They selected them from the military, and that's how this man found out he was third in the Union.
